The Tachikawa Calligraphy Nib Type A - Set of 2 is designed for calligraphy styles where clean shapes and strong contrast are essential. Type A is a square-cut nib with sharp corners and a completely straight edge. Unlike slanted or softer-cut nibs, this nib creates pronounced block shapes and clear, straight stroke endings.

Because of this shape, the nib produces very thick vertical strokes and extremely thin horizontal hairlines. This maximum contrast makes Type A especially suitable for classical and graphic calligraphy styles where each stroke should remain clearly visible.

Type A nibs are traditionally used for Gothic and Blackletter calligraphy, Old English lettering, and clean block letters. The wider sizes are also popular for drawing borders and decorative frames around illustrations and text.

The nibs are fitted with a gold-colored ink reservoir. This reservoir is particularly useful with wider sizes (such as 4 mm and 6 mm), as it holds extra ink, allowing you to write multiple letters or full words without frequent re-dipping.

The Type A series is available in widths ranging from 0.5 mm to 6 mm. Smaller sizes are suitable for fine work and cards, medium sizes for headings and titles, and the largest sizes for posters, wall art, and expressive calligraphy. The nibs fit standard “universal” pen holders, such as the Tachikawa T-25 and Tachikawa T-40.
